One Light, One Loaf

As winter settles in and the nights stretch long and cold, small lights begin to glow in windows across the city. One candle at a time, their soft flames grow — a quiet defiance against the dark. Each spark adds warmth, spreading gently but surely, until the night itself feels changed.
There’s something powerful in that rhythm — one candle, then another. One act of kindness, then the next. That’s how light spreads. That’s how warmth travels.
Every loaf of bread we give carries that same glow. It may seem small — a simple loaf, an everyday thing — but to someone in need, it’s a spark of care, a moment of warmth in the chill. One loaf can bring the comfort of knowing that someone sees you, someone cares, someone wants you to be fed and safe.
Like the Chanukah lights, each loaf adds its own gentle radiance. And when you add them together — candle by candle, loaf by loaf — the darkness lifts. The world feels a little brighter, a little kinder, a little warmer.
Because sometimes, that’s all it takes:
one light, one loaf, one heart reaching out to another.
